The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a major prize-giving event nears, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely that year
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
