Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
